Lottie is a pet form of Charlotte and so shares its meaning, "free woman", from the Germanic karl; it was a common nickname in Victorian times and is now used on its own, as it has been in Britain for years. It fits the vintage revival alongside Hattie and Mae, and Charlotte's run at the top of the charts has pulled it along. Lottie was down at number 7843 in 2000, entered the top 1000 in 2022 and has risen to number 528 in 2025, its highest rank yet.
