Lisandro is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Lysander, a Greek name that means "liberator of men", from lysis, release, and aner, man. The Spartan general Lysander and a lover in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream are its best-known bearers; the Spanish form is common in Argentina. In the United States Lisandro entered the top 1000 in 2002, peaked at number 899 that year, then fell past number 2900 by 2020 and has rebounded to number 1404 in 2025.
