Lexi is a short form of Alexis and Alexandra, Greek names that mean "defender" or "protector of mankind", and has been given on its own since the 1990s. Its bright, snappy sound made it a favorite of the Alexis boom. Lexi ranked number 439 in 2000, peaked at number 241 in 2014 and has slipped to number 628 in 2025 as the Alex- names have cooled.
