Alexia is a feminine form of Alexis and Alexander, from the Greek alexein, "to defend", so it means "defender" or "helper". It is common in France, Greece and the Spanish-speaking world. In the United States Alexia ranked number 165 in 2000 and peaked at number 128 in 2002, but it has lost ground every year since, falling to number 1040 in 2025.
