Leena is a Finnish and Estonian short form of Helena, from the Greek word for "torch" or "light", and it is also a common spelling of the Arabic Lina, "tender" or "young palm tree". That double heritage makes it popular in Finnish, Arab American and South Asian families alike. In the United States Leena ranked number 1752 in 2000, reached number 1007 in 2019 and stands at number 1115 in 2025.
