Kamaya is a modern American name, most likely built from the popular Maya with the prefix Ka- that appears in Kamari and Kamila; some parents also connect it to the Sanskrit kama, "desire" or "love". It has a soft, flowing sound and has been used mostly in African American families. Kamaya is rare in the United States, peaking at number 1920 in 2008 and ranking number 2763 in 2025.
