June is the name of the month, which the Romans called Iunius after Juno, the goddess of marriage and the queen of the gods, so the name is read as "of Juno" or "born in June". It was a fashionable girls' name in the 1920s and belongs to country singer June Carter Cash. After decades out of favor June returned to the US top 1000 in 2008 and has climbed steadily from number 281 in 2015 to number 150 in 2025, its best rank in this century.
