Julia is the feminine form of the Roman family name Julius and is usually explained as "youthful" or "downy-bearded", from the Latin iuvenis. It was the name of Caesar's daughter and of several early saints, and it has been used in English since the Middle Ages. In the United States Julia ranked 29th in 2000 and peaked at number 27 a year later; it slipped out of the top 100 in 2020 and stands at number 131 in 2025.
