Jaylon is a modern American variant of Jalen, a name that became popular in the 1990s through basketball star Jalen Rose, whose name was made from those of his father James and his uncle Leonard. Like its relatives it carries no traditional meaning; the Jay- opening and -lon ending were chosen for their "smooth sound". Jaylon ranked number 429 in 2000, peaked at number 398 in 2002, was number 1135 in 2015 and ranks 1816 in 2025 after leaving the top 1000.
