Janna has two sources: in Europe it is a short form of Johanna, the feminine of John, meaning "God is gracious", while in Arabic jannah means "garden" or "paradise" and is a popular Muslim girls' name. The two readings make it a name that works across cultures. In the United States Janna peaked at number 1307 in 2001 and has stayed outside the top 1000 since, ranking 2203 in 2025 with 84 births.
