Jairo is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Jairus, the synagogue leader in the Gospels whose daughter Jesus raised; the Hebrew name Yair means "he enlightens" or "he shines". It is widely used in Latin America and among Hispanic families in the United States, where it is often pronounced HY-ro. Jairo peaked at number 556 in 2008, slipped out of the US top 1000 for two years and ranks number 935 among boys' names in 2025.
