Jacqueline is the French feminine form of Jacques, the French Jacob, and so means "supplanter" or "holder of the heel", from the Hebrew Ya'aqov. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made the name a byword for elegance in the 1960s. In the United States Jacqueline ranked number 64 in 2000 and has slipped out of favor since, to number 558 among girls' names in 2025.
