Imran is an Arabic name of uncertain origin, usually explained as "prosperity" or "long-lived"; in the Quran Imran is the father of Mary, and a whole chapter, Al Imran, is named for his family. It is one of the most common Muslim names in South Asia, where the cricketer and former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan made it a household word. Imran climbed from number 2398 in 2000, first touched the US top 1000 in 2018, has been in it every year since 2022 and ranks number 969 among boys' names in 2025.
