Idalia is a name of uncertain origin, usually explained as a title of the Greek goddess Aphrodite after the town of Idalion on Cyprus, so it is often glossed as "behold the sun"; it may also be a Spanish elaboration of Ida, "work". It is used mainly in Spanish-speaking and Polish families. Idalia moved from number 2793 in 2000 to a peak of number 1404 in 2023, the year Hurricane Idalia put the name in the headlines, and stands at number 2162 in 2025.
