Holland is the name of the historic region of the Netherlands, from the Dutch holt land, "wooded land", and it has long been an English surname as well. As a girls' name it joins the fashionable group of surname and place names like Harlow and Sutton; actress Holland Taylor is a familiar bearer. In the United States Holland entered the top 1000 in 2014 and reaches number 550 among girls' names in 2025, its highest rank so far.
