Sutton is an English surname and place name from the Old English suth tun, meaning "south town" or "southern settlement", and it belongs to the wave of surnames that American parents have turned into first names. Its crisp sound and the shared Sut- of Sutton Place in Manhattan give it an upscale feel. Sutton entered the US top 1000 for girls in 2013, climbed from number 676 in 2015 to 181 in 2025 and has set a new personal best in every year of the past decade.
