Fia is a short form of Sofia and so carries its Greek meaning "wisdom"; in Ireland it is also used on its own as a version of Fiadh, "wild" or "deer". Short and soft, it fits in with Mia, Lia and Pia. Fia is a newcomer in the United States: it was almost unused until the 2010s, has risen every year since 2017 and reaches number 1738 among girls' names in 2025, its highest rank to date.
