Exodus comes from the Greek exodos and means "going out" or "departure"; it is the title of the second book of the Bible, which tells of the Israelites' escape from Egypt, and of Bob Marley's 1977 album. As a given name it belongs to the recent wave of bold biblical word names like Genesis and Messiah. In the United States Exodus rose from number 7675 in 2000 to number 1997 in 2025, its highest rank to date.
