Emeric is the French and English form of the Germanic name Emmerich, which is usually explained as "home ruler" or "work ruler"; in Hungary it became Imre, the name of the saintly son of King Stephen I. Film producer Emeric Pressburger, Michael Powell's creative partner, is a notable 20th-century bearer. Emeric was virtually unused in the US in 2000 and has climbed to number 1574 among boys' names in 2025, its best rank so far.
