Elion is a name of "uncertain origin". It is popular among Albanians and is usually explained either through the Hebrew Elyon, "most high", a title of God in the Bible, or as a modern blend of Eli and Leon. In the United States it appeared only sporadically until recently: it stood far outside the rankings at number 8984 in 2015, jumped to number 2122 in 2024 and ranks number 2492 among boys' names in 2025.
