Eleanore is a variant of Eleanor, which comes from the Occitan Aliénor; its meaning is uncertain, and it is usually explained either as "the other Aenor", after the mother of Eleanor of Aquitaine, or as a form of Helen, "light". The extra e gives the royal classic a French, slightly old-fashioned flourish. In the United States Eleanore has risen along with Eleanor, from number 2129 in 2015 to number 1398 in 2025, its best rank ever.
