Edwin is an Old English name made of ead, "wealth", and wine, "friend", so it means "rich friend" or "prosperous friend". King Edwin of Northumbria converted to Christianity in 627, and astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin walked on the moon. In the United States Edwin is especially popular in Hispanic families; it ranked number 158 in 2006 and has slipped to number 398 in 2025.
