Dimitri is the Russian and French form of Demetrius, a Greek name meaning "devoted to Demeter", the goddess of grain and the harvest. The chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, who devised the periodic table, and composer Dmitri Shostakovich are famous bearers. In the United States Dimitri ranked number 732 in 2000, has hovered around the edge of the top 1000 since 2018 and stands at number 1101 in 2025.
