Demetri is an English short form of Demetrius, the Greek Demetrios, and means "devoted to Demeter" or "follower of Demeter", the Greek goddess of the harvest. Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki is one of the most venerated saints of the Orthodox Church, which keeps the name alive from Greece to Russia. In the United States Demetri peaked at number 1,212 in 2002 and has eased to number 2,688 in 2025, with 48 births.
