Deion is an American spelling of Dion, which goes back to the Greek Dionysios and means "follower of Dionysus" or "devoted to the god of wine". The name owes its popularity almost entirely to Deion Sanders, the two-sport star who played in both the NFL and Major League Baseball. Deion stood at number 893 in the United States in 2000, has slipped out of the top 1000 since and ranks number 1744 among boys' names in 2025.
