Dahlia is the name of the showy garden flower, which was named in the 18th century after the Swedish botanist Anders Dahl; his surname means "valley". It belongs to the flower names that have blossomed again lately, from Violet to Magnolia, and its soft D gives it a slightly exotic note. Dahlia entered the US top 1000 in 2006 and has climbed every year since 2018, from number 412 in 2015 to number 215 in 2025, its best rank so far.
