Coral is an English word name taken from the sea creature and the pink-orange color named after it, from the Latin corallium and Greek korallion, so it simply means "coral". Like Pearl and Ruby it belongs to the jewel names that were fashionable in the Victorian era. In the United States Coral has never entered the top 1000: it peaked at number 1037 in 2004, stood at number 1224 in 2015 and ranks number 1931 in 2025.
