Chloe is a Greek name meaning "young green shoot" or "blooming", an epithet of the harvest goddess Demeter, and it appears in the New Testament as a woman greeted by Saint Paul. The pastoral romance Daphnis and Chloe kept it alive in Europe for centuries. Chloe was at number 38 in 2000, reached the top 10 in 2008 and 2009 and ranks twenty-third in 2025.
