Charli is a girls' spelling of Charlie, the nickname of Charles and Charlotte, which goes back to the Germanic karl and means "free man" or "free woman". Dropping the -e makes the name feel distinctly feminine and casual, in the manner of Charli XCX or Charli D'Amelio. Charli entered the US top 1000 in 2010, peaked at number 365 in 2021 and ranks number 496 in 2025.
