Camilla goes back to the Latin camillus, the title of a youth who served at Roman religious rites, and is usually explained as "attendant at a ritual" or "acolyte". In Virgil's Aeneid Camilla is a swift warrior maiden of the Volsci, and today the name is best known through Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom. Camilla entered the US top 1000 in 2003, peaked at number 263 in 2020 and ranks number 361 in 2025.
