Cameron is the name of a great Scottish Highland clan, from the Gaelic cam sron, and means "crooked nose", presumably after some early chief. It became a first name in the 20th century and is used for girls as well, though in the United States it remains mostly a boys' name. Cameron ranked number 31 in the United States in 2000, its best year in this century, and has slowly eased down to number 76 among boys in 2025.
