Cairo is the name of the Egyptian capital, which comes from the Arabic al-Qahira and means "the victorious" or "the conqueror", a reference to the planet Mars, which was rising when the city was founded in the 10th century. Like Milan and Memphis it belongs to the recent fashion for place names as first names. In the United States Cairo entered the top 1000 in 2015, peaked at number 306 in 2022 and ranks number 341 in 2025.
