Brigid is the Irish form of Bridget and comes from the Old Irish brig, meaning "exalted one" or "strength". It was the name of a Celtic goddess and of Saint Brigid of Kildare, one of the patron saints of Ireland, whose feast day opens the Irish spring. In the United States Brigid is a rare heritage choice: it ranked 1403 in 2000, has stayed between numbers 2323 and 3399 over the past decade and stands at 2784 in 2025.
