Bobbie is the feminine spelling of Bobby, a pet form of Roberta or Barbara, and through Robert carries the Germanic meaning "bright fame"; Barbara would instead give "foreign woman". The singer Bobbie Gentry of "Ode to Billie Joe" is a classic bearer, and the fashion for tomboyish nicknames like Billie and Frankie is lifting it again. Bobbie ranked number 1298 in 2000, dipped to about number 4270 in 2016 and has recovered to number 2067 in 2025.
