Blaize is a variant of Blaise, from the Latin name Blasius, which is usually explained as "lisping" or "stammering"; many parents also hear the English word blaze in it. Saint Blaise, a 4th-century bishop and physician, is invoked against throat ailments, and the French mathematician Blaise Pascal is the best-known bearer. In the United States Blaize peaked at number 1591 in 2013 and ranks number 2395 in 2025.
