Azaire is a very recent American coinage that extends Zaire, the former name of the Congo and its river, from the Kikongo nzadi, "river" or "the river that swallows all rivers", with the opening A of Azariah and Amir. It has no older history and was chosen by parents for its sound. Azaire appeared in the national statistics for the first time in 2021, at number 4127, peaked at number 1609 in 2023 and ranks 1826 in 2025.
