Avian is a modern American name taken from the English adjective avian, "of birds", which comes from the Latin avis, "bird". Some families use it instead as a spelling of Avion or Avyan, and it also echoes the Hebrew Aviel. The name has stayed rare and fairly flat in the United States: number 3307 in 2000, a best rank of number 1606 in 2018 and number 1699 in 2025.
