Avia is usually explained as a form of the Hebrew Aviya, "my father is God", while the Latin word avia means "grandmother"; many parents simply hear it as an airy variation on Ava with a hint of aviation. It shares its light sound with Aria and Aviana. In the United States Avia ranked number 5001 in 2000, peaked at number 1830 in 2016 and stands at number 1945 in 2025.
