Annabel is a Scottish name that goes back to the medieval Amabel, from the Latin amabilis, meaning "lovable" or "worthy of love"; it was later reinterpreted as a blend of Anna and belle. Edgar Allan Poe's poem "Annabel Lee" gave the name its romantic American pedigree. Annabel entered the top 1000 in 2000, peaked at number 447 in 2014 and has since slipped to number 2065 in 2025.
