Angus is the English form of the Scottish Gaelic Aonghas, from the Celtic elements for "one" and "strength" or "choice", so it is usually read as "one strength". Aengus was the Irish god of love and youth, the name belongs to a Scottish county and a breed of cattle, and guitarist Angus Young of AC/DC gave it rock credentials. In the United States Angus stood at number 1341 in 2000, reached number 1160 in 2001 and ranks number 2363 in 2025.
