Angeline is a French diminutive of Angela, from the Greek angelos, which means "messenger" and came to mean "angel". It was a fashionable name in 19th-century America, where it appears in the folk song Angeline the Baker, and today it reads as a gentler alternative to Angelina. Angeline entered the US top 1000 in 2003, peaked at number 602 in 2007 and has since eased to number 1570 in 2025.
