Aminata is the West African form of the Arabic name Amina and means "trustworthy" or "faithful". Amina was the mother of the Prophet Muhammad, and the expanded form Aminata is a classic among Mandinka, Wolof and Fula families in Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Gambia. In the United States it is given mostly in West African immigrant communities: Aminata ranked number 2308 in 2000, peaked at number 1996 in 2015 and stands at number 2441 in 2025 with 73 girls.
