Amaris is a name of uncertain origin that is usually explained as a form of the Hebrew Amariah, meaning "God has promised" or "God has said"; others connect it to the Latin amare, "to love". It has been used in the United States since the 1970s, mostly in Hispanic and African American families, and its soft ending links it to Amara and Damaris. Amaris entered the top 1000 in 2015, peaked at number 752 in 2016 and ranks number 754 in 2025.
