Aimee is the French form of Amy and comes from the Old French amee, the Latin amata, meaning "beloved". The spelling with the double e became fashionable in the English-speaking world in the 1970s and 1980s as a more elegant take on Amy. In the United States Aimee peaked at number 557 in 2000, slipped out of the top 1000 around 2016 and stands at number 1581 in 2025.
