Amelie is the German spelling of the French Amélie, a form of Amelia, which goes back to the Germanic amal and means "work" or "industrious". The 2001 film Amélie, with Audrey Tautou as the whimsical Parisian waitress, carried the name into the United States. Amelie entered the US top 1000 in 2003, two years after the film, peaked at number 603 in 2013 and ranks number 828 in 2025.
