Aeris is a modern name that most parents connect with the Latin and Greek word aer, "air", which gives it an airy, elemental feel. It entered American use through the video game Final Fantasy VII (1997), whose flower-selling heroine was called Aeris in the original English release and later Aerith. Aeris peaked at number 1,997 in 2014 and has settled in the 2,000 to 3,000 range since, ranking number 2,692 in 2025 with 64 births.
