Eris is the name of the Greek goddess of "strife" and "discord", who tossed the golden apple that set off the Trojan War, and since 2006 of a dwarf planet at the edge of the solar system. Parents who choose it are usually drawn to its sleek sound, close to Iris, rather than the mythology. Eris has risen in the United States from number 2661 in 2015 to a peak of number 1586 in 2023 and ranks at number 1623 in 2025.
