Adhara is the traditional name of the second-brightest star in the constellation Canis Major and comes from the Arabic adhara, meaning "virgins" or "maidens". It was practically unknown as a given name in the United States until the 2020s, when it rose rapidly among Hispanic families alongside other star and sky names. Adhara entered the US top 1000 in 2023 and has leapt to number 370 in 2025, its best rank by far.
