Zyra is a modern name of uncertain origin, usually read as a fresh respelling of Zara or Zaira, names that are linked to the Arabic zahra, "flower" or "blossom", and to the Hebrew Sarah, "princess". The initial Z and the short, bright sound fit the current taste for compact names. In the United States Zyra has climbed steadily from around number 3100 in 2015 to number 1732 among girls' names in 2025, its best rank so far.
