Zoey is the American spelling of Zoe, the Greek word for "life", which early Christians used as an equivalent of Eve. The spelling with a y became the more popular one in the United States during the 2000s, helped along by the television series Zoey 101. Zoey ranked number 410 in the United States in 2000, entered the top 100 in 2008, peaked at number 20 in 2012 and ranks number 69 among girls in 2025.
